Default Yet another cam vs. 6.0 question

thanks for the help in advance guys...

ok, i have a 00 ls1 w/ 70k on the ticker, and all supporting mods minus a ls6 intake. M6, tunnel TA, moser 9", 4.11, pace setter LT w ORY and gmmg.

i have this cam on the shelf complete w/springs, timing chain, and 7.4 pushrods. Cam: Comp 228/232 .588/.595 on 114+2 lsa.

i am wondering what kind of numbers i can put down with it, i would buy a ls6 intake or a fast setupwhen i installed it.

OR

I have the option of a 02 complete iron 6.0l w/ low miles avail for 800 bucks.
which to install i would still need to buy an intake as a minimum. what kind of power to expect? suggestions?

budget wise i am kinda open? dont want to spend masses of money, but i am not gonna spare any expenses.

thanks again
Tim

damn tough choice. i dont know enough about the 6.0s to comment. you ls1/m6 should make 400 whp with that cam/ls6 intake.

transfer all mods over to 6.0 and install cam and valvetrain
sell lo miles ls1 to offset cost
bigger motor, more power, make some money back
problem solved.

I agree with the 2 guys above, assuming you will be putting that cam into the 6.0. Power numbers really won't differ by a lot at this stage, but going to that 6.0 does give you the opportunity to machine it out to a 408 later on down the road.

With the modifications you have I would be looking to hit right at 400rwhp. The 9" will rob a little bit of horsepower but that cam should still get you real close to that mark.

It depends on which 6.0 your talking about. If it's the LQ9 it will make a little more power with a bit more low end torque. If it's an LQ4 it will probably be real close to the LS1. Neither will be a night and day difference. If it was me I would do the 6.0.

6.0 IMO. I have an LQ4 with ported 5.3 heads and stock truck motor cam ( i Know, I know.... cam is on its way)

And I am making crazy low end torque. I love this LQ block because it WILL be bored and stroked in the next 1-2 years. More cubes is always better, Im sure no one here has to tell you that.

There is a weight penalty, This can be off set by a battery relocation. I am thinking about doing it but curious on a few factors of the install. 6.0 all the way. 402/408 etc after that.

hell I would just get the 6.0 block and keep it in storage until I was able to get it built!

well i did alreay buy it, so i have it, now the question is to wait until tax time to buy stage 3 6.0 heads and a healthy cam, or put it in now with the cam i have (motor has 317 heads/from 02 yukon) or put the cam i have into the ls1 and wait all together for the 408?

I've read the agressive ported 6.0 heads aren't worth the effort unless your going to bore/stroke your block or go FI. They flow really well stock and you can probably get Patriot or one of the others to port your stock heads cheaper than buying a set. I'd try the cam with the stock heads first and see what that gets you. The TSP 228R or Torquer v.2 would probably be a killer and still have decent street manners. I'm probably going to run the 228R in my Silverado SS.

i have already got a cam, listed in post 1, but i am wondering if it is worth it to use it in the 6.0, and i am planning to turn the 6.0 into a 408, just dont have te cash for heads AND stroker at the same time. so i was thinkin to get the stage 3 6.0 heads and use my cam (Comp 228/232 .588/.595 on 114+2 lsa) in the stock 6.0 shortblock. what kind of power should i see from that combo? prolly use a set of prc stg3 6.0 heads and my cam and a stock bottom end...?
