I used a razor, a scraper, and a dremel with a plastic wire brush. It feels smooth to the touch, just wondering if i should clean it more.

Looks like you've got a tad more cleaning to do. I see some material left here and there. I would also bring each piston up to TDC and clean them. Would be a shame not to while the heads are off, and remove that carbon deposit.

I like using a scrotchbrite pad on a air 90 grinder. Those little things work amazing for cleaning off old gasket material.

if you dont have a air grinder go get yourself a gasket scraper and use brake clean also. brake clean evaporates quickly and will eat the **** out of that old gasket material.

No, clean up that black stuff at the bottom of the surface, and clean the pistons at the same time.

It's tough to remove the composite gasket material with a scraper sometimes, but like mentioned earlier, it comes off pretty easily with brake clener and a scotchbrite pad. I found a bag of the blue scotchbrites which are supposedly 'scratch free' that I use to clean some areas of the underhood and undercarriage with good success.
