Default Cleaning/polishing parts for Re-assembly??

ok guys im getting ready to put together a stock internalled(low milage parts) 6.0 iron block. the block is new how ever the rotating assembly is used (under 40k). im farmiliar with engine assembly for the most part how ever ive never used, used parts. now when reassembling transmissions ive been used to using 2000+ grit sand paper to clean surfaces up that are worn on such as bushings and other surfaces. now on a crank shaft for the main, and rod bearings is it ok to use this same technique to ensure the surface is debris free and smooth? i do not want to spend the money to get it polished unless its absolutely neccesary. thanks again for you help and any engine assembly tips are greatly welcomed

To tell you the truth, a decent machine shop prob wouldnt charge much more then $20-30 to do a crank polish.

i think crank bearing surfaces are way to important to risk. i would think for a perfect polish it would need to be spinning on a lathe.
