Important: If camshaft replacement is required, the valve lifters must also be replaced. 2002 Camaro Service Manual page 6-699
In other words, the lifters must be replaced if the camshaft is worn.

Re: OEM engineer: new lifters w/ any new cam is REQUIRED (!?) The manual also says to replace your valve cover gaskets and intake manifold gaskets. Read it how you want.
