The following warning in the service manual can be misinterpreted.

Important: If camshaft replacement is required, the valve lifters must also be replaced. 2002 Camaro Service Manual page 6-699

In other words, the lifters must be replaced if the camshaft is worn.

The manual also says to replace your valve cover gaskets and intake manifold gaskets. Read it how you want.

Just did a head swap on my 94000 mile LS1 and I couldnt even tell the lifters had been in a motor.
Clean as a babys butt.
