Default Flycutt question.

People that have had flycutting done to there pistons, what was the charge? It takes us abour 6 -8 hours to do this procedure, I was thinking of a more flat rate price.

Joe.

8hr's ,we would charge $500 labor.I'm figuring your time is including removal and reinstalling the heads?Cutting itself takes about 1.5-2hrs.

for the amount of effort involved, and if would really be around $500, why not just get diamond or someone else to make you some "Pre-flycut" or domed-in forged pistons? Then you get both the fly-cut and the side benefit of having forged for around $600 right?

yeah, you would get just the parts for around $600, but that wouldn't include any of the labor charges to put them in which would cost a pretty good amount. if you can do this stuff yourself, then flycutting your pistons won't cost very much at all. it's the shops labor that costs so much.

Because it would cost another $1500 for the shop to build it for you

well my diamond pistons were around $600 and came already dished-in, that was how they were put together initially. Without that I never would have cleared P/V running a 242 cam 595 lift on 2.08 intake valves.
