Default Torquer v.2 Question

I've been searching for a cam for my daily driver, bolt-on z28. I landed upon either the torquer v.2 or the texas speed 228R. Im leaning towards the torquer v.2 bigtime. People put down consistently strong numbers with this cam from what i've read. So for a reliable daily driver, would this be a good cam?

Another question, the one i was more worried about.. The torquer v.2 is known to have very little bottom end (but pulls super hard up top), so would this mean my gas mileage would be affected less by this cam? Or is this completely flawed logic? lol

Basically im just looking for a strong, reliable and daily driver friendly cam, with a nasty lope lol. So torquer v.2 with a 112 LSA a good choice?

Thanks for your input!

The torquer v.2 is a great dd cam once tuned. I don't think the gas mileage will be affected by the power band of the cam, its really more how the person drives it. Either way you look at it you will lose some gas mileage because the car is making more power, if you can keep your foot out of the gas it shouldn't be a huge loss. From what you have described in this post I definately think the torquer v.2 is what you are looking for in a cam.

Now when you say the v2 has little bottom end, does that mean the car will be a sluge till mid-top? Wondering because I was also looking at this cam over the 228r.

I`ve read some negative threads on this cam as you do many things on here.Made me worry a little because I had already bought one.Now that its installed I was worried for nothing. This cam screams and has plenty of bottom end torque.

I've just read that it makes most of its power in the upper rpms, versus spread throughout the whole range. And from little john's post it doesn't look like it's that bad down low anyways.

With a good tune this is a very well mannered street cam. Milage will suffer some but that's true for all cams. I would say it has as much down low grunt as a stock cam but screams in the mid-high rpms.

Good hell! How did you pull that off? The best milage i've gotten with it so far is 21.

Sorry to jack the thread but is this a good cam for an auto with a 3000-3600 stall? Wouldnt that keep it in the powerband more than with a M6?

Are you doing a cam only swap or are you going to do heads as well? You might look at "budget" heads like stock 243s or 5.3 heads. The 5.3 heads will increase the compression which will help your low end power and 243s flow a little better up top.

I don't think this cam is a dog down low either, especially if you get it on a 112! Having some degrees of advance ground in as well will lower your power band too. Mines a 113+4 and power starts coming on below 3K, peaks at 6K then holds it until 6.5K so that works well for me!

Will the 228R have more low end torque than the T v.2? My plan is to use this cam with a LS6 intake and 5.3 Stage 2.5 heads and a 150 wet shot and M6. Which will be better for this set up?

I am also considering the TV2. Either that or the 233/239. I would love more info on this cam. Seems perfect sized. Can we get it on 111LSA?

For now im only doing the cam swap. I will do heads in the future but i just dont have the money right now.

Okay so sounds like this is a solid cam that's good for a daily driver. The gas mileage thing isn't that big of a deal but i was just curious... Thanks guys

Oh yeah one last thing, I was planning on getting the cam package from texas speed w/ the 918 springs etc.., and also an ls2 timing chain and a ported ls6 oil pump. How necessary is the oil pump? I have an 02 and my oil pressure is already really good. And on texas speeds website there is an ;ls2 timing chain listed and ls2 timing set, what's the difference?

So cam, springs, pushrods, ported ls6 oil pump, and ls2 timing chain. Anything else?

Dont waste your money on the oil pump my friend messed around with my stock oil pump and shimed it and I peg my gauge over 80lbs when cold and hold over 60lbs at idle when fully warm. Do a little research on that before you buy one.

How many miles do you have on the oil pump? I had over 80K so I got their ported LS6 pump without giving it much thought since I was going this deep into a build.

I just replaced my stock chain with the 30 dollar LS2 chain, not sure about the kit.

And your gauge reads 0 when the engine is off and the key on?

If ur gonna be in there i would change the pump, be careful not to drop the bolt that holds the pickup to pump in the pan

That's my dyno graph with my Torquer v.2; then again I also have 5.3L heads and a 92/92 FAST intake manifold and throttle body and all boltons... I thoroughly enjoy it, but its the only cam I've ever driven...
