Default How much to mill stock heads

Have all bolt-ons and will be putting in the ASA cam. Thinking about milling the heads. How much should you mill them

if you are going through the trouble of removing your heads at least send them in to someone to port. I can not see you getting a huge gain from just milling a stock head. The heads still have to flow to make power.

Not much without claying that ASA cam first, especialy if your running 1.8's. Best bet is to go LS6 or ported 5.3's IMHO. Ported 5.3's should be in the 11:1 range. It would take alot of milling to get there on stock LS1's and with that cam, you might need to cut valve reliefs.

I have heard mill them between .055 & .080. Any comments on this?

I have heard of up to 0.050" without miss aligning the intake ''too much' but 0.080" ...that’s going to cause problems...

5.3Liter heads will give you a 10.8:1 CR without any mill and 0.020" will put you at 11.2:1.

high compression is nice (if you have the octane to use it) because it helps make up for overlap at low RPM

as blk~2000~Z28 said, the best thing would be to install the cam and heads, clay, and then see how much you CAN remove.
