Default LS2 Timing Chain

I figured this would be an appropriate question for Gen III...

I'm looking to do an H/C swap on my car and I'm looking at the LS2 timing chain.

Would my best bet be to buy just the timing chain, or buy the whole timing chain set (crank gear, cam gear & chain)?

Thanks for the input!

The very best would be to buy the chain and gears but 1000s of people just put the chain in with no problems including me.

Depending on age and mileage, I would get the set but you need to make sure you have the tools to remove/install the crank sprocket.

Best is the whole kit, but only chain will work (LS2 chain is OEM direct replacement)

gears and chains wear together so unless it super low miles change them as a set

I only have 28k on my car. So when I do the Cam and Procharger setup I'm just going to put in the LS2 chain.

My car has 79k. Sounds like it might be a good idea to do it...but not necessary.

I unfortunately don't have the tools to change the crank sprocket...this is the one thing making me lean towards just the chain.

Chain only at 70k miles. I'm almost to 90k miles now. No issues, and lots of high RPM running.

Don't use the lack of a tool as an excuse to not do the sprocket swap. You can either borrow the tool from a local parts store or buy one. They're not that expensive.

I think I got the Kent-Moore tool off of e-bay new for around $10. Then you just need a standard puller.
