Default compression -> power range

does compression lower the power band of an engine? I have a MS4 cam and i dont really like spinning it to 6800. Im not changing out the cam i just want to know what i can do to lower the power band.

should have went with a different cam. the ms4 is not designed to be a low spinning rpm cam.

You could raise the static compression by milling the heads and thinner head gaskets to get your DCR to about 8.5. That will bring some of your low and midrange torque back. Downside, if you have stock pistons may have to flycut them for piston to valve clearance.

If you have a double roller (or even single) ajustable timing set you could easily advance or retard the cam. I know that the double roller set from TSP witch is like 130 bucks lets you play up to 8 degrees advanced / retard with the cam, or maybe its 8 degrees total but in any case, advancing it 2 degrees will bring the powerband down 2-300 rpm, and 4degrees should be double that. To me thats your simplest fix.

That would work if the cam is ground perfectly. Last MS4 we installed for a customer was 8* off. (thats just the way they come some times, its no fault of TSP)

Swap the cam out or get bigger cubes. This is why I preach a 224 all the time. Its not that I think you should only use a TR224, its because smaller duration cams are better for street cars. No amount of compression on pump gas is going to change that.

Retarding the cam should help but chosing the proper cam is a better way to go. Lots of people want that cam you wont have an issue selling it amd then you can do the right thing and have custom cam ground. We offer them and we spec them to make sense for the application intended. Compression and cam size are not bragging rights, tearing that 03 Cobra a new one is.
