Default looking for info on a double roller timing chain set

is there a double roller timing chain set that doesn't require grinding on the oil pump or cover for clearance? I am looking to order one and wanted to know which one would fit the best.

I have a rollmaster double, all I had to do was use the shims to move the oil pump off the engine about a 1/8 inch. No grinding needed. Got mine from TSP.

Why do people have a hard-on for double rollers? They are a needless waste of money unless you plan on making 1000+ hp. Seen numerous 500-800 hp engines do just fine with a GM ls2 chain.

How did you determine you didn't need to grind?

Any time I do any thing to moving parts I have all the spark plugs out and the belt off and I will roll the engine over many, many times by hand with a wrench. When I built this engine I put the timing cover on torqued it down and rolled it over, removed the timing cover and made sure the chain wasn't hitting any thing. I also went over my build with jayson at TSP several times before making a several thousand dollar order, and he told me the double roller would clear the stock cover, because I didnt want to grind, cut ect.

I reallize the ls2 chain is a proven piece but for the extra 80 -100 $$$ thats nothing compared to the 7k it cost to build my engine. Money well spent for the extra insurance IMHO. I do agree with you that for a bolt on, camed car or a bolton, H/C car the double is over kill.

talk to 1.8t, he had an ls3 chain break and found a Cloyes that is supposed to be the best chain on the market... your talking $35x though but he did not want to have this happen again.

I think the double row on with an LS1 cover is no problem. I think the double row with the ls2 cover is the problem, The only set up I've heard about working on the ls2 is when a double is used with the SLP pump. They already grind the pump where its needed so that it fits under the LS2 cover. Do some research on the subject because it can make your head spin.

Usually the double roller causes problems with ANY cover, like KCS was hinting at already, but it's not a huge amount of work to fix. Also some dampers hit the oil pump after it is spaced out there to clear the oil pump with the spacers they included. I think SLP makes a pump that works with double rollers but I have only used it maybe twice so I cant remember if it went right on with no work. Sometimes you get lucky.

One more thing to add... My seal pushed out of my timing cover on the dyno do to excess crank case pressure from the blower, anyways I had to remove the timing cover to change the seal and there was no sign of any rubbing. (300 miles or so) Like some said above its not set in stone that it will clear EVERY cover so just double check your work and never ASSume every thing is alright.
