How much does a LS1 aluminum shortblock weigh? How much do the heads weigh?

the block alone or with componenets in it?

 

lets say and assembled short block

 

wouldn't depend on what parts are in there?

 

my ls6 was 134 pounds with cam bearings and main caps in place

 

Im really looking for a ball park figure. I wanna know if me and another buddy are gonna be able to pick one up from my friends machine shop and put it in the back of my van without alot of hassle. If its under 150 pounds it should be a piece of cake.

 

....approximately 85 pounds less than a Gen 3 iron block

...the crank weighs about 40lbs, the rods and pistons are about 20lbs...the cam about 8lbs...

exactly what kind of machining did they do on the block?

 

someone here said a complete ls1 long block engine with accessories weighs 400lbs with oil...

 

The heads, a cardboard box, a bit of foam, weigh 23lbs. So two heads alone probably weigh about 40lbs.

 

I can tote the bare block around the shop myself. There is no way the two of you shouldn't be able to handle the short block.

 

Yes i weighed LS1 heads and they weigh 20 lbs. each vs. AFR SBC head weighs 27 lbs.

 

I just had a mustang 5.0 short block (iron and assembled) delivered and it was 241 lbs. Different engine but two of us carried it with little trouble.

 

I would say 180-220lbs.

 

Short block should be a piece of cake for two guys. I took care of a bare 350 IRON block once after the machine shop. Aluminum would obviously be lighter, so the added weight of the shortblock items wouldn't be too bad.

You and another guy? Piece of cake, unless you're 13 :p

 

We both used to move big screen tvs all the time ranging from 150-400 pounds and have to lift them about 5 to 6 feet off the ground so I figure we can handle it.

 

Last week my 15 yr old brother and I hauled a complete LS1(minus intake, exhaust mani) out of my dad's truck and 20 feet into the garage. Talk about heavy..had to be close to 450lbs or so.
