You can either use a hooked seal hook (theres just a little hook on one side) or a slide hammer, I would also recommand replacing that bearing with a brass self lubricating bushing.

does it even need to come out? it should be recessed in there enough it wont interfere with the converter snout. never run into this issue, so its just speculation.

Well, I was told it needs to. I am going to take it out for safe measures anyway. I might use a jack hammer...J/K

I purchased a specific tool for about $25 that makes it amazingly easy to pull. Another option is to rent/borrow one from Autozone. They also may have the puller tool like what I bought. (My AZ didn't have the specific one)

Yep, a blind hole puller is what you want. I rented one from either advance or autozone (don't remember) and a slide hammer, and snatched that little bastard out so quick I couldn't believe it. A regular puller will not work. BTW this might be in the

The blind hole slide hammer puller from autozone did not work for me, pilot bearing was in there too tight. I used the dremel & hammer/chisel method. After I did it I saw this in a GMHTP article, this is the right tool if your pilot bearing is stuck. Not sure where to get it though:

you dont have to take it out..............if you wnat to pack it full of grease....use a plastic cluthch alignment tool and tap repack tap repack tap repack......and hydraulics will take care of the rest and push it out.........or just leave it in. the converter does not go that far in the crank

look at the size of the pilot on the converter and then look at the little hole the pilot bearing is in

you may push out the plug in the back of the crank if you use the packing method. you will leak lots of oil if this happens!

Rent the blind hole puller from Autozone, worked great for me. Also, don't use the old grease method, there is a plug in the back of the crank that will leak oil if dislodged and many guys have learned that the hard way.
