Default lapping valves?

I disassembled my heads to get them milled. When putting them back together, should the valves be lapped. I did some google research and most that I read, said not to lap.

The heads only have a couple thousand miles on them. They're Patriot perimeter bolt with 2.055I and 1.60E valves.

I just wanted to see what other people thought. I've lapped before on old sb heads. I just don't want to mess up the seats. Or cause any premature wear by lapping them.

Any input is appreciated!

JMHO, I always lap to ensure the valve job and seal are correct. No harm in lapping them.

They'd probably be fine as long as they went back in the same cylinder they came from, but there is definately no harm in lapping them as long as it's done correctly. Make sure both the valve guide and valve stem are free of dirt and well oiled to avoid scratching the guide when spinning the valve.

I always lap them too. I actually have some super fine compound (600 grit) that I use for cases like this. A good check on color lets you know the valve job is good as well. I am doing this on a set of Darts that I plan to sell right now, that way I know the buyer will get a good seal on the valves.
