Default RWHP SEEMS WEAK FOR MODS

I have a problem, based on the mods in my sig do my numbers seem weak? 330 rwhp and 344 rwtq seems pretty weak after dyno tuning. Arlington Motorsports tuned it, and made it run a little better but it just feels weak. I have heard that I should be up around 360-370. I have a set of 5.3 heads and I am going to get an ls6 intake and a g5x2 cam kit, but if I have a problem somewhere else I want to fix it before I do anything else. Any and all input is much appreciated!!!

You mentioned you have 5.3L heads???? What are done to the heads..? If nothing then that is your problem. The stock valves on 5.3L heads are smaller than the stock valves on 5.7L heads.. Now if you have work done to the heads. Your numbers look like DOO DOO.. Was this a Mustang Dyno? The ls6 intake is only going to pick up say 15rwhp.. Your 3.73 gears are not hurting you that much.. What type of dyno was this..? We have local cars with bolt ons with better #'s than yours and I live in a low dyno area..

Just to give you an idea of what you should be dyno'ing.. My first setup was the T1 cam.. B4 tuning I dyno'd 372rwhp/360rwtq. After tuning and less mods than you I dyno'd 390rwhp/380rwtq.. I added a pulley and did not gain anything.. Subtract the ls6 intake and you should be 375rwhp..

99HUGGSS: find out what kinda dyno you were on
Mustang and Dynomites show less power than the "typical" Dynojets

What valve springs are you using on your stock heads? Who installed the cam?

It was a "dynojet" and I have comp 918 springs. I will post a picture of my dyno sheet. The cam was installed at a GM dealership before I bought the car.

I A-Tapped this car at the track last night to see what the problem might be. Here is the log. The LTFTs are a little high and it does have ported MAF ends on the car, but he said they were on it when it was tuned.

Dang. I surmised your tune was bad even before I got to your last post . . . then my suspicions were confirmed.

The LTFT'S aren't just a little high . . . they're wrong. You should have 0 LTFT's at WOT.

Do a part-throttle log using the following parameters:
Fuel Cell Trim, B1S1, B2S1, LTFT's, KR, Engine Speed, and map. Create an excel file and average the ltft's in fuel cells 6 thru 14. The part-throttle lterms need to be negative in order for them to go to 0 at WOT.

Once this is accomplished you can then do a log at wot:
TPS%, Fuel Cell Trim, O2B1S1, O2B2S1, KR, timing, engine speed, and delivered tq engine to tranny input ft-lb.

You could get a lot of helpful assistance with tuning here:

Your numbers do seem low for what you have, your tuner must not have set enough timing.

BTW - You don't have to have your part throttle Ltrims negative for your WOT to be at 0. Mine are positive and it locks to 0 at WOT everytime on and off the dyno...

Interesting.

In which cells did you average your lterms?

And make sure you open the 5.3 chambers to a 3.900" bore size! We have a CNC program for doing this that costs $100, but it must be done before the valve job is done. Hope this helps.

Get rid of that ported MAF and run a descreened stocker. I picked up over 35RWHP throughout the curve and ~30RWHP peak swapping out just my ported MAF and doing a single tuning change. Turn off COT if you have ORY as well. Timing should be 28+ degrees from 4000rpm and up and AF around 13.0:1 (depending on octane and what heads you are using)
