Default Biggest cam for my setup.

I have a good friend who is selling me an almost new 238 248 cam for $150. We called Compcams and they said that cam is pretty big but it would work awesome, but I was talking to a friend and he says the bucking and surging would be a big issue unless I put at least 4.11's in the rear. My concern with the gears is driving home to TN form Tampa, FL. I dont want to be running 3000 rpm all the way home. Should I go with a smaller cam to kepp that down or will I be ok with my stock gears...

410/411's are optimal for that setup but with a good tune you will be fine. But GOOD tune is the key. I think tuned right it won't buck/surge at anything over 1800/1900.

410/411's were made for that cam though so get'em in there ASAP. It will make that beast a whole new car

Edit: See JF tuned your car. I would DEFINITELY get him for the retune......

all you need is a good tune and there should be no bucking or surging

the bucking and surging mostly comes into play in the lower gears where torque multiplication has more of an effect. with a good tune 6th gear shouldnt have driveability issues with a big cam
