Back to stock - dyno #s inside
Since I couldn't get rid of the car without dynoing it, I strapped it down this evening to see what it would do.
Since all I had was a bare block at the shop, I found some parts to get the motor back together. Here is what went into the motor:
- brand new stock pistons/rods, polished stock crank
- JE rings
- Federal Mogul rod, main, and cam bearings
- ARP rod bolts
- ARP main studs
I used a set of stock '01/'02 "241" castings and an '01/'02 stock cam. This is all I could find when I had time to work on the motor.
I had the block stress honed and align honed before I assembled it. You are probably wondering why use all these nice parts when it was just going to be sold? Well, I already had the machine work done and parts purchased before I decided to put it back to stock. lol
I finally put the motor in last Saturday night and spent most of this week getting the shocks swapped out, stock rearend in,etc. I put 230 miles on the motor this weekend, so it is broke in enough for me.

Since I couldn't find any of my '99 exhaust manifolds, I used a set of '01/'02 manifolds/cats. Pretty much my car is an '01/'02 now since I have the newer heads/cam and manifolds. The only difference is that I'm using a stock LS1 intake instead of the LS6 that came on those cars. I also left my Whisper lid on, along with a cutout.
Here is what the car pulled:
Back to stock - Whisper lid/cutout - 332rwhp/351rwtq
(Ignore the torque reading. For some reason it spiked when the run started. It pulled 351.4 rwtq at peak.)
I was very pleased with the #s to say the least. I would be curious to see what a LS6 intake would do.

That's the good news.. the bad news is I blew up tranny #3 last night.
I thought going back to stock would be easy on parts.
It is popping out of 3rd gear all the time. I have a rebuilt T56 going in tomorrow after work.Jason
