i tried to just pull it up and then pryed it with a flat head and had no luck

Mine was attached to the coil pack rail with a bracket/nut on the upper portion of the rear-most coil pack bolt. It was a PITA to get off of there, but after you get it unfastened, it just pops out of the rubber grommet.

i just pulled hose off of the plastic thing that goes into the valve covers.
This is not a problem is it?
Also what is the full purpose of the whole pvc system?

Positive crankcase ventilation. It relieves the blow by pressure from the crankcase, and returns that to the intake. If too much pressure was built up in the crankcase then the piston rings would not seal properly. Floating rings equal loss of power. That is the short of it.
