I made money off that car when sold, I bought it cheap...

No doubt the 408 will bring a little more money if I was to sell the car. The build cost from a 370 to a 408 is about $1,200.00 so I do not have problem spending the money to build the 408.

If my heads will not work with the 408 then I will have to get heads therefor I will have about $3,500.00 more into this build than if I was to just go with the 370 and use my heads.

BTW, I would rather have the 408 if it will work with what I have.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd think the bigger bore + longer stroke (408cid) would rev slower than the shorter stroke (370cid)...

Also, someone mentioned if your not going FI, go smaller cid...I'd think it would be the other way around. If you don't want FI, go bigger cid.

Sounds like your leaning towards the 370cid, either way good luck. Personally, I'd go bigger cid, as you can tell by my sig.

Your heads will work fine with a 408cid. They are not "ideal", but you'll only be leaving some HP on the table. I'm putting my ported patriot LS6 heads on my build. I know with expensive heads I'd get more power, but I don't want to spend another few G's just for that.

Go bigger CID

How do you figure? Adding the little extra stroke also adds weight and slows down the rate of rotation. Yes is adds cubic inches which will create the ability to move more air; but it too comes with a cost. We are talking about 38 cid. At 1hp per cubic inch that’s 38hp, I agree… THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT but HORSEPOWER… the difference between the 370 and 408 is $800. Besides the shorter stroked motor will get to the peak Horsepower quicker, there are Pros and Cons to every build and the 408 is a great build…for a forced induction build. The 370 is a better build for a Naturally Aspirated build. The rod length to stroke ratio is better suited for a N/A or nitrous build.

They are both on a 4" bore block, the only diff is the crank stroke...

Sound like you miss read my post. The 370 is better suited for N/A and the 408 is better suited for F/I.
Like in your SIG you went with a 416 cid (LS3 I would assume???) why not go up to a 427cid?

um i dont know how you got that out of my post...he was talking about the value of a 370 vs a 408 as in monetary value. the difference in cost now has little to do with the difference in resale later.

How about this, How would the 408 do with a set of AFR 225 out of the box? Do I need special rockers or pushrods with the AFR's?

I voted 408. If your gonna spray it, it want really matter if the heads are "optimal". And if you are going to by some heads, get some ported L92's that flow 360cfm for 1200.00! Have a LS3 intake ported and pick up a 90mm PTM throttle body then your done.

He already has a fast 90/90. So what will the horse power difference be between the 370 with the same stock ported heads anad the 408 with the same stock ported heads?
I would be supprised if the 408 made 10 or 15 more horse power with the same heads. It might make 20 more foot lbs of torque but that will be it. If hes going to be puting gas on it just up the shot a tiny bit and make up that difference and save the $1200 for some suspension you will be needed either way or a hell of a down payment on a 12 bolt. Either way you only talking about probably less than a tenth of a second in the 1/4 mile.
If you spent money to up grade heads either one of the 370 or the 408 will benifit from the head up grade.

My bad, if he already has the fast 90 setup then it looks like he could have a really nicely setup 370ci n/a and like you said just hit it with a little extra N20.

So is this going to be a 370 iron block setup?

As far as HP difference, his 370 will be close to optimal so I don't see it being much rwhp (15-20) difference than a 408 that he would put together with the same parts. The 408 would probley still have some extra low end grunt but we are talking about a stalled A4 car not a M6 so that really dosn't come into play in my book.

It will be a Iron 370, I have the stock 6.0 in the car right now. I spun a rod bearing on the dyno last night.

Could be the same but you would have to rev the 370 up higher.

No,
you can run your stock rockers with AFR's and it would be a great combination.
