Default cam or bolt ons?

i am kinda going thru a dilemma and im not sure what i should do, i really want to get a fast 90 90 intake & TB but i have a guy that is willing to show me and help me install a cam, lifters, springs, pushrods .... etc. and he is only going to charge me $100 to help me do all this work, also this is the same guy that tuned my car after i put the LTs and ORY on it. ive done a search and ive read that its better just to do bolt ons then to go into a cam. what are your oppinions? is it to good of a deal to pass up?

ehh its a good deal no doubt, but without the supporting mods cams don't perform as well as they should. Get the fast 90/90 and then save up again for the cam. my .02

Supporting mods don't perform as well either without a cam, so its a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't. Everything works together bro so just do what you can afford. 100 labor for cam install is unbeatable unless you can find someone to do for free. Is he going to tune the car as well ?? I say get the cam now and pickup the ported 92 intake when you have money and/or the price has dropped a bit. Maybe find a used one.

IMO just get a LS6 intake and a cam, you already have a fair amount of bolt ons (judging by your sig).

Definitely do the cam. You already have LT's. That's really the one you want to do before a cam. It will be a good learning experience for you--its not really that hard, but it will help having someone show you the correct way to do it. Get an intake later. You won't have max power out of the LS1 intake, but it will still be worth the effort.

Have fun!

if you have headers, then do the cam. its the best bang for your buck. IF you dont have headers then do headers and exhaust first. Its dyno proven that you get more power out of LTs and tune then u do out of doing a cam without headers.

Is he going to tune the car as well ??
ya hes going to do a tune on the car as well, and hes doing that for free, one of the cool ppl that charges u once and then free for any other tunes
i would do the fast first but it seems like for a pretty decent cam+lifters+pushrods+ everything els for making the cam as good as it can be, it is still cheeper then a fast 90 90 setup

You don't need a fast intake unless you are going to do heads also. LS6 intake works great with cam only cars. For the price the fast is not worth it unless you are doing a max effort build with heads too.

+1^^^^. You can get results from a cam only, but most of the time heads/intake need to be matched and done together. Get the cam first, save for heads/intake, which as you know, are much more $$$$.

you keep saying lifters...you are aware that the heads have to come off to do lifters.....in most cases the stock lifters do just fine...

yes really all you will need is some springs and pushrods you can find some hardend push rods on here for like 75 80 bucks and you can find dual valve sprins and titanium keepers for under 200 bucks then a cam for 250 shipped or even less so you are looking at about 500 for everything as to were you will spend 7 to 800 on the fast intakei would forsure go with the cam because it is a noticable differance

Forget the FAST, youre not there and you dont need it. Do it last!!

Cam is the best choice with heads. You can pick some nice ported 243s for the price of the fast, so its a no brainer; head first. Or even a set of used stock Z06 heads.

And, if youre doing a cam only, go with a big cam!!
