Moroso LS1 oil pan question
I have a LSX block with a Moroso LS1 oil pan. The pan is made to hold 6 quarts. My question is this, in order for the dip stick to read "full" I have to put in 8 quarts of oil. I understand with it being a remote oil filter. some of the oil volume will be need to fill the oil lines but 2 quarts? I am using the stock dip stick. Has anyone else have this issue?

I use it. I run 8.5 qts with the remote mount filter to read just a little above full. I run about 7ft total length of lines and the larger PH8A style filter (probably 3/4qt). I always thought my capicity was 7 qts. I am using the 67-69 swap pan but its probably the same thing. I am using the stock dipstick as well.

i would assume there is a specific dip stick. contact moroso.
wouldnt hurt to get some more info.
on my moroso pan i had to make a custom dipstick, before i put the pan on the motor. there is no where to route a dipstick due to my headers.

I've always run ALL of my engines about a 1/2 quart over. It's just a habbit. There are guys not running windage trays on their engines which is more detrimental to oil 'slosh' control. I dont think 8 quarts is TOO much. Like i said i really think my Moroso was advertised as 7qts when i bought it so maybe they just decided to only call it a 6 qt pan? BTW the cross reference part number for the PH8A filter for K&N is 3002 which is what i run on nit. I see much better oil pressures throughout the engine life than with a Fram or a Mobile 1. Its supposed to filter better too but who knows.
The dipstick on LS1s goes into the block, not the pan. I would think regardless of what pan you are using you would still want to maintain the same distance from your crank to your oil level so the pan should be irelevant. If you wanted to use a rubbermaind 35 gallon tub with an super deep sump for an oil pan it would work fine so long as you maintained that 1" or whatever it is from the crank weights.

since the factory dipstick tube is fastened to the motor i would assume even if you put a barrel under your car the oil still has to reach the full mark to be full which is in the same place bc the mount was unchanged. the top level of "full" oil has nothing to do with how deep/wide/long the pan is.
