Default Best Cam with manifolds and stock cats

I wonder is it worth it to put a Z06 cam or any cam in my 02 stock SS and keep the stock manifolds and stock cats or do you definately need to put some Long Tube headers on it before the cam. Would i be wasting time and cash with the cam install with stock manifolds? I could put alot better camshaft than a LS6 cam with the savings on the exhaust. I await your reply.

Thanks

Not sure how big you wanna go but look into the Thunder Racings CheatR cam.
It was made specially for manifolds and stock y-pipe.

CheaTR or CheaTR LS2 (if you are a little more frisky )

Those cams are designed to do just what you are wanting to do. Give me a call here at the shop this week and I can set you up with everything you'll need.

Thanks,
Shane

The cam you pick to work well with stock manifolds will be a lot different than one that works well with a free flowing exhaust.

Personally I believe in doing all the bolt ons before the cam. And LT headers are a great mod for a couple of reasons. They make your car sound great and they add power all the way across the curve.

Everyone don't like headers I don't mind a quiet car and have speed at the same time.

I know of more than a few customers with 20-30K miles on this cam with the same springs. Go for a quality set of springs and you will be fine.

Thanks,
Shane

I had the CheaTR cam for 2+ years in my Birdie before i sold it. 340rwhp on a 98 with FTRA, lid, catback and LS6 MAF. NOTHING ELSE. I added a ported TB and LS6 Manifold a little later on, but never got a chance to re-tune and get new #s.

Great Cam, and the car sounded pretty mild. A lot of cars never saw it coming . I also kept about the same mileage with the cam. Even got 30mpg on a road trip from CA to AZ in 100* heat in the middle of july cruising at 80mph.

I've been told that there are people who have put down 390rwhp with the CheaTR, a set of heads, and stock headers.

We tuned a CheaTR here on a 5.7 ls-1 GTO and made 381/367 if memory serves me correctly, he had headers with cats and head work. It did about 300rwhp in stockish form.
