LS6 block...LS1 oilpan TROUBLE
OK guys... I'm getting the chevelle back together and using a 02 LS6 shortblock. The oilpan, windage tray, and p/u tube are from my previous setup(98 ls1) and with the tray and tube installed there is interfearance that will not allow the pan to seat. There are some gussets in the pan that are striking the tube. Has anyone seen this happen? What do I do now? HELP!!! Thanks

The windage tray goes all the way towards the back of the engine. Make sure you are using the f-body windage tray if you are using an f-body oil pan. The Corvette windage tray is the full length of the engine, the f-body one is shorter (only 8 nuts secure it). This is because the front of the f-body oil pan works as a windage tray.

Yeh, I've seen this before.
A recent magazine article features this swap and it had a ton of good pictures on what they had to do with the pan...
...LOTS of cutting and welding....they also had to cut and bend the oil pick up tube....it looked like a diffucult fabrication job to me...
I'll look through my subscription pile and let you know....
It was withing the last two months - either hot rod, super chevy, chevy high performance, or hot rodding, i think....

Dale, the gusset's that are an issue are the one's above the third bottom hole from the left(in your pic).
Nineball, the two windage trays I have are both full length, maybe I mixed the 6.0l tray up with the f-body, either way...the two I have in possession now are the same. Could you post a pic... I just referred to an illustrated parts diagram I received today at a Pontiac dealership and the tray is 10 bolt( for whatever that is worth)
I thought the LS6 block was the same as a LS1, is this not correct? Direct replacement, in other words.

Re: LS6 block...LS1 oilpan TROUBLE
Yes, it is a direct replacement. All parts for a LS1 will fit the LS6 block.. I built the one I have
The F-body tray is only 8 bolts and leaves the front of the rotating assembly exposed. The windage tray only covers cylinders 3-8. The oil pan wont go on if the front set of rods has the tray because there is no room.

Re: LS6 block...LS1 oilpan TROUBLE
I must have the wrong windage tray, I am going to get the correct one and hopefully get this car back on the road. Thanks for the assistance, I'll update when I get a tray.

LMFAO @ some of the input you have gotten. Man the internet can be a dangerous place. Swap the C5 pick up tube and windage tray for an LS1 pickup tube and windage tray and the pan will bolt right on.
