Talking Help me pick head/cam combo

Hey everyone once again another post asking about head and cam combos LOL. My buddy has a 01 ls1 a4 with stock gears. He has 2k to get everything he needs for this except the stall which he will have to save for. The stall will most likely be a 3800-4000, he wants a nice idle with some good hp but most importantly good low and mid range. He is going to stay with the ls6 intake and going with all the good acc like the ls7 lifters and ported pump. I was thinking about TSP's stage 2.5 5.3 heads with a torquer 3, what you'll think about that? Thanks

I say run a Futral cam with some AFR heads. You don't always need a big cam to get the most out of a setup.

Stock gears? Does he have GU5 with 3.23s or does he have the 2.73s? May want to get some bigger gears if so. I think the setup you picked out would be great for what he's looking for. I am about to put in my G5X3 with some 243s, went the big-ish cam route.

you guys miss the part about a 2k budget?

5.3 2.5s
T V.3
ls6 intake
3600-3800 stall

that setup will SCREAM in the low-mid range..

a buddy of mine has an f13, 5.3 2.5s, 373s, 3500 stall, full bolt ons, ls6 intake 28 inch tire.. in the 1/8 mile... i kill him out of the whole by about 2 lengths... then he comes back real quick after the 60 up about with his nose at my door, and holds till the end of the 1/8 mile.. i out trap him by about 1/2 MPH..

that was when i had ms4 cam, ported 9090, 410s, 4k stall, 26 inch tire, full exhaust, stock everything else.. was not tuned for gears or intake..

i would beat him every time by 2 tenths from a dig... he would beat me from a 40 roll by about 1/2 a car every time cause of his mid range and throttle response..

i would go for that setup if he wants a smaller cam..

You are right. In that case the 2.5 heads will do but I still like the Futral cam

i would talk to louis at LG motorsports. a g5x3 could give some power. as far as heads go, you might be able to find a set of inexpesive used afr's or darts or what not on ls1tech. just keep an eye out and look, but the tsp heads could also bring some good power.
