Rear main seal??
Hey Guys,
Need to changed my rear main. Its leaking like a sieve.
I bought the seal from GM. Now, whats the best way to put this on?
Pull the rear cover and press it in? Or Just pop the old one out and the new one on? Don't I need a special tool to do this?
If I pull the rear cover, but don't move the oil pan, will i have an alignment issue?
Anyone, help is appreciated. Thanks,
Joe

When you get everything off the back of the motor check the plug in the center of the crank shaft. Sometimes that leaks so while you're in there is a good time to take a look at it.
I changed my rear main seal when I did my clutch back in november. The current version of the seal is one piece and you don't need a special tool to install it. Golen Engine is very close to me. I went over there and they showed me how it slips right on the crank by hand. Make sure to dry any oil off the crank when you put it on, apparently it seals best if it's dry.

4" sewer pvc pipe cap from home depot.
there was a thread on it a while ago.
1.56+tax.
i just tried this method the other day and couldnt believe how easily the seal went in.
no tapping, or going in crooked!
