Default L33 cracked block

My son's L33 (aluminum block 5.3L) has a crack on the deck surface between hole #6 and 8. The crack goes from liner to liner where they are closest. Is this something that can be fixed or is the block trash? The liners look to be in perfect shape and the motor was running good before overheating.

That's the way I'm leaning, but I hate to trash it over a little chicken **** 3/8" long crack. There is quite a bit of meat between those small bores. I'm also thinking there may be other problems that I'm not seeing.

I was hoping that someone would say they have welded up a similar crack, milled the surface, and have been running strong for 200K + miles.

No it is not nessacarily Trash. The only way to weld it up would be to bore the 2 liners out, weld it up, install new liners and then deck it... There is a reason it cracked there (probally from overheating) an untill the liners are out you probally won't know... This has been done before on LS block. and I am sure if you talk to someone with a lot of experince with the LS1,LS2,LS7 blocks you will find they have had to repair at least a few of the here and there and that is most likely the same process they used.
