Long tubes will out flow and produce more power over shorties any day. Shorties will make a litle more power over the stock manifold and would keep the cats almost in the stock postion if you needed emmissions. Some times putting a catted Y pipe in with LT headers can still give the 02's a differant reading because they are further down the system.

The power gain isn't worth the time and money IMHO. Lt's are louder than stock but if you add a catted Y pipe and go with a quiet cat back it's not going to be that bad.

Firts of all headers isnt internal engine....second theres no comparison between LT's and Shorties...I wouldnt waste the sweat of installing headers for the minimum hp you'll gain. Maybe 5 HP at best

well i need to pass emissions and need cats so what would you suggest? i have a loudmouth catback with high flow y and cats now but the stock manifolds...i want a little more power and better sound while still passing emissions without spending crazy money...would throwing some shorties on there accomplish that?

Buy some long tubes w/ emmisions, and weld a few cats on, no big deal.

Yea thats if you can get some gutted cats for free or laying around. Im telling ya man ive been doing this alot of years, and I always try to find the most cost effective way...Its not getting any cheper then what I listed except for picking up used. Thats the route I would have done but I bought my car w/ Catted headers.

mid length headers do not bolt up to the stock ypipe.

so you still technically move the cats...which is technically ILLEGAL.

for your emissions test...is it a sniff test only? sniff and visual? or visual only?
and if its visual...do they just glance under to see if they are there?

depending on your state/local requirments....you could go any one of a dozen routes.

, Plus my car was tested as a ODB1 even though it has a Ls1...yes still have the mids, which like posted about is still "illegal" because of the cat movement.

A lot of guys will swap back the stock parts for the test, then re-install the headers afterward. It's a bit of a hassle, but it goes quickly once you've had practice. That's just the price you pay for enjoying this hobby.

I once had my own plans to take the smog legal high road, but once I did some research and realized how limiting the stock exhaust is, I changed plans.

Are those mac headers loud with the catts ?
And how much power did you feel from them?
