Default Cam questions

just looking for a recommendation really. Getting ready to order some KooksLT's and ORY and hopefully get ahold of a used LS6. I'm kinda confused about what cam to go with. goal is 400-425. I also plan on 3.90's as well. I know I will have to spin her past 6500, but don't want to go o 7K if i dont' have to.

I have searched and that left me more confused than aything.

You plan on getting heads too, or just the intake manifold and cam?

It all depends on your supporting mods. You could get your goal with something as small as a 224 if done right.

400rwhp is doable on any number of 23x cams
425rwhp is not so easy without heads

are heads in the equation?

Sorry I shoukd have specified, heads are not in the wqation right now. Maybe the end of the year with a 92/92 if I have the time.

HTX-What would it take to do it with a 224? I personally want sometihng in the 232/232 range, but may consider the 224.

you will need heads to make 400rwhp with the 224, and really good heads to make 425 with the 224.

a 232ish cam with moderate heads would put you well over your 425 goal.

I don't have the money for heads right now and kinda want to go cam only. Plus I may not be able to get a tune fter this may. There aren't any good tuners out here in Hawaii so having people come out is the only option, and that may being happening in a few months.

Hadn't thought about it truthfully. I've seen some good numbers from a reverse split cam, but it was bigger than a 228

23x/23x 111 will put you in the 405hp/385trq range with a perfect power/torque curve and great drivability.

no, you do not need heads to hit 400 with a 224. You just need all the supporting mods done properly. Go to the dyno section and check out the cam only results. There are several people that have accomplished the task.

and a 232/232 can put you anywhere in the 390 to 430 rwhp range. Do a search for the "El torro" cam. Pred Z speced it. it is a 230/230. Chris1313 put down 420rwhp in an automatic with that cam and no deads, did not even need a FAST intake.
