Default Strange Noise With Patriot Head and Cam

Just finished my head cam package on my 02 Z and now there is a strange whining noise while your coming up through the rpms. I went with 225/229 580/590 114 LSA howards cam and 2.02"/1.57"/64cc LS6 style stage II heads. The guy that tuned it said it sounded like a valve train noise that he hears a lot from Patriot Heads. Anyone with similar problem have a clue?

Patriot heads tend to chatter at idle, but I've never heard of them whining while coming up through the rpm band. Did you check your pulleys?

Belts were replaced, pulleys in good shape, whine is coming from within the motor

Did you change timing chain and sprockets? "Whining" noise should not be head related.

Try using an automotive stethoscope to isolate where the noise in coming from. Here are a few sources. Your Sears or auto parts might have one in stock.

Did not change the timing change or sprockets, they only have 30k miles on them, the sound can only be heard in the car when reving the engine. If your outside the car under the hood you cant hear anything. The guy I had tune it said it was valve train noise that he hears a lot with patriot heads.

May be a dumb question but are you sure it is just not the intake sounding like a supercharger?

The valvetrain noise that will have with our heads sometimes is a result of the Patriot Gold valve springs. The greater pressures will sometimes result in a slight valvetrain noise that is a "clicking" noise but not a whining noise.

Thanks, for the clerification of the valve train noise, as for the AIR system, all the air hoses and emissions stuff have been removed.

It's got to be an air leak somewhere. Like said above, check your intake.

My car is cam only and I have had what I call more of a whirring noise since the cam and springs (918). It's like you describe. It's not very loud but there and the shop said it was just the springs working. It's been that way for around 2 years and the car runs great so I have not worried about it.

This is a pretty good description of the noise my engine makes as well and I am running Patriots 226 cam and their stage II LS6 style heads with 2.02 intake & 1.57 exhaust & 64 cc chambers . The noise is not loud at all and you can only hear it at idle . It runs like a champ with no problems at all .
