Default Just Another Cam Question??

Ok so i have a 2000 Pontiac Formula Firebird M6.I want to cam my car but iam not sure which to go with? I was looking at the CompCams Xtreme XER.I want a pretty good lope at idle. I also dont want to lose much bottom end or top end. So i have been looking at cams and and need some help. A couple guys i know went with the GMHotcam. And another friend of mine is going with the TrickFlow230? The specs on the comp cams was enticing? So it would be muchly appreciated for some help??? Thanks.

I'm gonna say it before anybody else. Try a search to better help you. We can only suggest what to go with. There are so many cams out there to fit what you described that it's basically going to be up you anyway. If I had to suggest a cam for good low end and top end the TR224 is a proven cam and just good all around. Pretty much anything 230 duration and below is going to give a good torque/hp curve and have more useable power. Look at alot of our sponsors to the right. They usually have a description for each cam and can help guide you along also for your selections.

Well, I'm running the Vengeance Racing VRX4 228/230 588/592 112 lsa. I love the crap out of it. It pulls great all around and I'm very happy with my selection. It also lets you know it's cammed cause it does talk some **** through the duals I'll have some track times with it after this weekend.

Look at my fquick link in my sig. Too much stuff to list. The hp/tq #'s were with a basic tune. The tune is complete now, just haven't gone back to see what it is actually putting down now.

I'm shifting at 6500. Powerband on the cam show 1900-6600. I've upgraded rod bolts to do so. It pulls hard all the way to 6500. Haven't tried any higher. On my first dyno run with the basic tune in it the torque jumped to 325 at 3k rpms (pull started at 2500rpms) and climbed to 375 at 5k. HP at same starting rpms started at 185hp at 3k and rose to 385 by 6k then stopped. I was unaware I had 26lb injectors so they maxed out and wouldn't do any more. I have since put the correct 28lbers in and finished the tune and it feels like a solid 400rwhp car give or take just a few. This is through a 9 inch and an M6.

I think that i am def going to go with this cam now. I tried searching it but could not find anything on it. Everything was for the vrx5. How much does it cost to get those rod bolts replaced? I wanted to do them for security measures lol. How many miles have you put on your car since the install? Do you have to replace springs all the time with that cam?

The arp rod bolts cost about $120 and i did them myself. I've probably put around a 1k miles on it since the install and no problems in driveability. Comp 918 springs should last a long time.

Just do one bolt at a time and follow manufacturers directions. You gotta drop the k-member down some, but its not as hard as it sounds.

I did the cam swap, pulley, springs, and rod bolts in 2 days taking my time. Started on it friday afternoon and finished buttoning everything up sunday morning. Then busted it off. Sounded great. Then drove it down the street and put gas in it. I'm running 3.50 gears at the moment, but the 4.11 are going in tomorrow. It didn't buck not one bit and drives like stock except for the cam shake
