Question cam for a camaro

does anyone know of a cam that would fit a stock 98 ls1 from a camaro that doesnt require replacing the stock valvesprings and still allows me to get decent fuel mileage?

yep dude, replace the springs! it would be dumb not too very very cheap insurance. Almost any cam is going to be tuned, i also warn you dont want to go too small it wont be worth it.

If you mean a tune then yes. I also would recommend changing the springs on any cam.

Definately change the springs. You can get patriot golds for 250. At that price with the valvetrain being one of the most important parts of your car its worth every penny.

Thunder Racing has a few cams that don't require tuning and they sell packages that come with new pushrods and springs. Very good deal, might be a good place to start looking. You may want to look at a TR224, but you will need tuning.

I would change the stock springs and pushrods with a stock cam going in! Lol

YES change the springs on ANY cam swap. ASA and Hotcam are two choices that imediately come to mind, but I would go bigger.

x2 on the TR224, one of the most popular cams out there, and some have driven them w/o tunes, but I would highly recommend a tune, hell I would tune a completely stock car! Do it once and do it right with cam, springs, pushrods, tune and you'll be set.

Also, make sure you know the ropes on double/beefier valve springs.

Once you install your cam, don't go flooring it that day.

Allow a GOOD, EASY heat-up and cool down; maybe two cycles. Just cruise around.

Even then, don't lay on it till you engine is warm. Cold valve springs can do some interesting (expensive) stuff at 6500RPM.

This should include most everything you need to know.
