Default 383 Stroker Machining Question

Hi, im in the process of building my ls1 into a 383 stroker. Im using a callies rotating assembly, and i was wondering if anybody knew of any special clearancing involved with this build? Or am i just ok with boring and honeing? Thanks for the help

GM High Performance did a series of four issues on this very subject about two years ago. Do a search on their web site. Send me a PM if you have questions.

yes the the block will need clearanced the rod bolts wont clear,and the windage tray will need washers to clear,ive spent close to a 1k on machining,theres alot involved be prepared.

You can do it yourself. You basically have to "mock up" the motor. The pics in the story would help you alot. It's much easier than the old cast iron 406 with big rods. If you don't feel comfortable, take it to a professional and KNOW it's right. If you try yourself, make sure you have .030" between the rods and the block. Save the money from the labor of notching the block and pin the caps, unless you can do that, LOL.

Thanks for the help. I have it at a machine shop right now but they dont work with ls1 383s very often so were trying to find out what to do. thanks for the help guys
