Default head/cam

i am in the process of buying some parts to do a head/cam install and i want to make sure that i am not forgetting anything.

so far on my list is:

TSP torquer v.2
PRC 220cc 5.3L Stage 2.5 CNC Ported Heads
LS2 timing set
LS6 ported oil pump
LS7 lifters

Don't forget the crank bolt lol. Now would be a good time to do a U/D pulley if you haven't already. Other than that from what I see you're all set.

I hear you on the funds. H/C swap can climb up in $$ in a hurry.

That's the same combo to a Tee, that I was gonna go with, before I snagged some GTP stage 2+. Post up your #'s in the dyno section when your done, and enjoy the permanent grin you're going to have from that combo.

Good luck

I was looking at something similar to this. What numbers do you think you can pull with this set up? I want something to put me mid to low 11's and hopefuly 10's on 100 or 150 shot. But for the money I think you can't beat this setup.

Don't forget the new oil pump o-ring! Most of the time, I recommend replacing the lifter trays while you're there too. They're too inexpensive and crack too easily not to replace them.

be careful with the UD pulley, i picked one out originally but with my stall, and gears i couldnt keep that combo off the rev limiter. i didnt see if you had any gears but thats just a problem i ran into with my 3500 rpm stall.

also, those numbers are in line for a H/C auto with that combo. Ive got 2.5 5.3's and a torquer 3 with all the regular goodies, and i put down 384/355, that was through an unlocked convertor and a flowmaster catback, but my torque curve is flat and pulls at any rpm. so dont get caught up in a numbers game. a GOOD tuner can extract good numbers from any combo, but dont go down the road of making a torque curve look like mount everest for the sake of peak numbers.

and if all else fails, call TSP and ask what they recomend. thats what i did and i originally was gonna get teh LS6's

dont look at numbers? numbers mean alot when u spend 1,600 on parts and the port job isnt wat it should be. i know the numbers sound low and we here in san antonio have one of the best tuners in town w/o a question. i even put the #30 injectors cuz it was leaning out and still no change in the numbers. im very upset with the package i got and i dont want someone else to feel like they got taken like i did.

unless u have a money tree in ur backyard... u should share with the rest of us.

all im saying is that those numbers are in line with the rest of the ones ive seen with that combo, little lower than some, little higher than others.

and if you are spending $1600 in parts the LAST thing id do is define success by a single number. i love my setup, and would never trade it for a huge cam that has to rev to 4500 before it sees numbers, even if they are higher than my peak

What kind of times you running? I only have a Ported FAST 90 and UDP put down 30 more HP. Don't expect to buy an "off the shelf" H/C package and put down 500 at the rear wheels. Add a FAST 92 and pulley to your setup and you'll break 450 for sure. I might have broke it but my factory clutch was slipping after the first pull and I was going through a Catted Y at the time.

I just installed my torquer v2 with 243 heads.
I was hearing loud sewing machine sounds...
after calling around, I found out that pushrods you get from the package is too small...
they suggest you upgrade to 7.42 pushrods to eliminate the sounds...
I'm not too sure if it will affect your performance though.
just my .02

i have yet to take it to the track and i wasnt expecting 500rwhp either. but i do think that 420ish would be reasonable. there are guys in my area using stock 241's makin more power than me and theyre using either ms3, ms4, or tq3 cams. theyre making in the range of 440-460 with non-ported LS6 intakes. im sure its possible that i ended up with a bad port job but i should be over the 420 hump for power...

so explain how 241's bone stock or mildly milled will make more power than a set of 2.5's?
