Exclamation Please identify this hose and its function

I have a 2001 trans am ls1. I just had headers, cam, and exhaust (with off road y pipe) installed.
There is a very large hose(1.5 inch...rough estimate) that runs from the front of the car, along the drivers fender (just inside it), then turns to go under the cowl panel along the firewall towards the passenger side.
It connects down low in the front of the car to what looks like (from above) a black box?
It is disconnected (open) at the end that is running along the firewall.

Can anyone please tell me what this hose is, and if it is ok to have disconnected?

Thanks !!

Its the air hose, used to pump air into the exhaust maniflds to warm up cats for the first few minutes when you start the car. You dont need it anymore since you got an ORY.

I think it is for the AIR system. But done quote me on that, all I know is that I got rid of that when I did H/C swap. I kept it b/c it has some of the coolest bends I have ever seen.
