FWIW, a forged 347 will take a whole lot more than the occasional 150 shot. Why not hit it with a 200 or 250?

With atleast forged pistons and rods I wouldn't hesitate hitting it with a 200 shot, provided you have a competent tuner. A 250 shot wouldn't be a problem at all either. I would recommend running head studs and a good gasket though.

IMO, not till spraying 300 or over will you need to ensure everything about your build should be designed with the intent of spraying lots of N2O.

SO if you can distinguish and live with the money spent for a 347 and the same power levels but knowing your safe to spray then your good to go.

But if every-time you step on the gas your expecting to be faster, you won't be and will be disappointed.

I'm the latter of the two and having been there and done that I would go bigger.
If you have a good block(haven't spun a main) then you can do a 383 for cheap money.

Or you can go to a 370 to save a little coin or a 408 would be the next least expensive way to go.
Im curious to know why u say he will make less power with a forged bottom 347? If your assembly weighs less and u spend the money to have it balanced better then your average factory balancing, u will rev faster and have less travel weight making more power.

Do you already have a motor? And if u plan on taking a bunch of nitrous to it and dont plan on taking the king of the NA world record, id recomend getting rods and pistons. For me it was 400 for rods, 800 for pistons with rings, 200 for bearings, and 700 for boring and balancing. Thats 2100 total.... a lot less then a 408 short block.

IMO yes. If your were solely going NA then a 408 naturally is going to make more power. But if you plan on spraying lots of nitrous like me and still want a really fast NA car, 347 is the way to go, bang for buck anyway. Plus if your in a 347 and u beat someone with a 408 its an accomplishment, vs being the guy in a 408 getting beat with a 347 is an embarrassment.

I built my stock motor to a forged 347. It has been great for me. Those blanket statements of "you'll regret a forged 347) are wrong. It's all in what you want.

I made 460rwhp all day long with heads and a Trex, knew my bottom end was in good shape, and threw a 200 wet kit on it for fun with no worries. Now, I'm re-usinfg the same bottom end with different heads and going to turbo.

And im all about fast reving motors, the more stroke u add, the slower your revs, which is why i like the 370 setup the best. Big bore, short stroke motor.

it also all depends on the intended use, a 347 is going to get better gas mileage than a 360 or 402, and with a big cam/heads and spray, it will be a 10 second car (if nothing breaks)

It all depends on who builds it and what parts are used. We have them from $3300-$3575, then the 383 starts at $3750 to $4050

I am doing the forged 347 because I already had new heads and cam that I placed on my stock bottom end...so in the long run it saved me some $$..I have a nice TSP cam and TSP heads..making 479RWHP.

If your just going to stick with a 347 I'd say stick with the stock crank, get a good h-beam or I-beam rod, and a nice set of pistons. The mahle pistons are a good price but some say they aren't as good as a diamond or the other big names, but I've also read people that like them and they work just fine with nitrous. For rods, you have the cheaper scat rod that aren't more then 400. I think the little stuff is what adds up. Head bolts, bottom end studs, bearings, and machine work.

a forged 347 is a good way to save some money on a fast car if your going nitrous or FI. i'm going this route for my turbo motor and like stated above, stick with the stock crank and save yourself some dough. the stock crank is nodular iron and you'll be hard pressed to find a stock crank failure...thier one of the few parts on these cars thats actually over-engineered.

get yourself some good forged rods and pistons (nitrous rings), new bearings, arp rod and main bolts/studs and call it a day on he shortblock. if your going with that much juice you may as well spend your money on the top end anyway...and a pretty serious fuel system

go with the 383 or a 408.why go forged with a 347, when u could get more c.i. for nearly the same amount of money? you can spray 200 with no problems, been spraying my 383 like that for two years now. stepping up to 250 maybe 300 pretty soon.
