Default heads

i feel dumb for asking but i have alot running through my head. im in the airforce and when i come back from deployment i planned on heads, cam, all the supporting mods. car is a 2000 ws6 m6 mostly stock

question is..do you have to change pistons when you use certain heads? and what heads have you had the best luck with for the ms3 cam?

with streetable hp goals of around 450..should i go with a more aggressive cam?

thanks alot

I would think that goal is achievable with the MS3...You would have to go the extra mile other than just "supporting mods" though I'd say. If I were you start looking for some stuff in this list:

Ported FAST 92mm intake manifold with a matching 92mm throttle body
Longtube headers (stainless steel or ceramic would be good to help with rust)
Underdrive pulley

That along with some decent heads and a free flowing exhaust system should get you close to 450 rwhp with a stock rear (which prooobably won't last too long if you drive it hard) and six speed. Texas Speed would be the best place to look for some nice heads with that cam, and supply all the engine upgrades you might as well do while you're in there as well, such as ported oil pump... Good luck!

The biggest thing is to check PTV clearance, and depending on cam and how much the head has been milled will determine what is allowable or even passible. You just dont want those tolerances too tight.

No piston change is needed. I am using some Stage II Patriot heads (a budget head) that I am happy with for the $$$. The MS3 is a strong cam, and to reach the 450rwhp you are going to need some good heads.... AFR, Trick Flow's ect.... Good luck! And Thanks for serving in the forces!!

Yea I know a guy that has the MS3 with LS6 heads (maybe even milled ones?) and he had no PTV clearance issues. I've got a slightly smaller cam (T2) with 5.3L heads unmilled, with a non-ported FAST 92/92 and made 435 through a six speed with stock rear; if I had an underdrive pulley and gutted cats then I probably could have squeaked the extra 15 out from somewhere; I feel even a slightly bigger cam would do so easily. Alot of your hp will come from whoever tunes the car!!

jmmullin, my numbers are close to yours 434rwhp with a FMS F14, PP Stage II's 59cc LS6's, LS6 intake, ASP pulley, stock rear M6..... I was thinking a ported Fast 92 setup would get me to the 450 mark but who knows

Wow, what a coincidence....we happen to be running a special right now with such a setup. Looks like a Fast92, NW 92MM TB, and Dart Heads, for 2495.00 shipped. A good setup to run into the higher 400HP range.

Running this special until the last of april.

I bet that would do be good for at least 10-20 more hp, but would that be worth the $900+ (-$250-300 that you could sell your LS6 for, so $600-650 for 10-20 hp) Might as well just put a safe level of N2O on that for race time!

Wow, that is a nice deal. Stock casting on the heads? What cc, valves, ect? Good deal non the less.

OP, There is a guy on deployment now, who is close to the same area I am from, and he is making around 440-455 hp with a ms3 and stage 2.5 5.3 heads irrc. TSP tuned the car, and set him up with everything. As others have said, good intake will be needed too (FAST 92 or ported FAST 90 or whatever), and UD pulley to help free up some power.

They are either the 205 or the 225

and funny you should mention the underdrive....we have those too in kit for with free belts, a free arp style crank bolt, and free shipping!!! Basically you pay for the underdrive (powerbond) in either 10% or 25%, tell us which setup its going on to get the right belts, and thats it! Thats how we do it, ALL DAY!

How long is the UD sale going on for? I still need that for my build, plus my cam and valvetrain, then everything is getting done. I have the bolt...but just a stock GM one. The ARP style is free? You have a link to this you can post here?

This is why I like you guys. Very good prices. This isn't even a special huh, just normal prices? Just like with the ls7 clutch kit...very good deals. When I am doing the billing statement, is that where I should put F body? Only comments that I really see.

Not mentally hard but a physical challenge to do while the motor is in the car. You just take your time. They even have instructions on LS1howtoo.com (hope that is ok with the admins) that you can print out and follow step by step.

Try the g5x series cams bro from lg motorsports. I'd suggest the g5x3 with those afr 205s. Good combo.

In my opinion I would go with prc 215 59cc and an ls6 and portedthrottle body would be fine my last set up had a 233/239 with a ls6 intake made 425 on a mustang and 440 in 4wd mode which is from what I head supposed to be the same as a dyno jet but I just go off the 425 and that was stock 241 heads
Now I got an ms4 with prc 2.5 59cc can't wait to see what that makes
