Default anyone have the thunder racing 227/224 'reverse split' cam?

I have a chance to pick up this cam, with push rods, springs and titanium retainers for about $600. This is brand new, never used. I am just looking for anyone that has this cam installed, and what numbers they are putting down. I am going to have lid, flp's, and gmmg along with this cam and was wondering what I will be looking at power wise. Also is this a good cam and a good deal, or should I just try to get a different one. Any suggestions and informtion will be much appreicated.

Oh yeah, the specs on thunderracing.com suggest to use different rockers than the 1.8, are these the stock rockers and should I try to get a new set & which kind.

Thanks,
Fry

I've got it and I love it. Its not the biggest cam out there so the numbers aren't HUGE, but it drives and idles very much like stock, so it depends what you want. You should put down about 420rwhp with heads, or 375-385'ish without.

The stock rockers are fine, and are 1.7:1.

jmX: so you really like the cam. With an exhaust on it, can you tell that there is an aftermarket cam installed? What kind of numbers have you put up at the track? and with what tires, etc?

Thanks for the info

I have this cam also, I like it a lot. Personally if I had it to do over again I would probably go w/ the G5x2 or something a little bigger than the TR227/224. It does sound very good though. You can definately tell there is a cam in there. Everyone I ever run across always comments on how they like the way it sounds. Right now with my current set up I have dynoed 400rwhp and 385rwtq. With more tuning I can probably get 15rwhp more. It pulls very good and makes power to 6200-6300. I haven't been able to take it to the track yet, but if you don't want to go too outrageous on a cam, then it is a good one to get.

He posted a video a while back, you can try a search, maybe its still there, with this cam through stock exhaust, manifolds, and cats...couldn't even tell it was there. Now I'm sure its a different story with aftermarket exhaust....

I used this cam briefly with stock heads before switching over the TR230. The car made excellent power with it and drove very well around town. It has been a one of our more popular cams with the Corvette owners. We did a '02 Z06 with this cam, stock LS6 heads, and all the bolts ons and it put down 421rwhp!

With this cam, lid, gmmg, and flp lt's what kind of tuning would be best. I would assume that ls1 edit would be the most power producing, and I dont really want a hand held programmer like a predator because I dont forsee much more engine mods after this. Also what kind of power were you all looking at before tuning? and did it run ok until the tuning session because I dont know how long it will take for me to get to the shop to get ls1edit.

Thanx

Mine ran okay. I had to let it sit and get warmed up and let the computer try and figure everything out; For example, rev it up a couple of times, it would try and die and then find the idle again, rev it up again does the same thing, I would do this a few times until it would find it's idle quickly, otherwise everytime I would come to a stop the car would go down to 300 rpm and up to 1500 rpm several times or even die. Tuning with LS1edit has given me around 20rwhp as of right now and I can get some more out of it. Also it has gotten rid of all the driving issues and made it a lot easier to drive. I would recommend the LS1edit.

thanks man, that is just what I wanted to know and is also how I figured the stock computer settings would react.

Much appreciated.
