Default Thinner head gasktet on LS6 rebuild?

I have my LS6 completely apart for rings and bearing...only different from stock will be tr224 cam.

I am in California and we only have 91 octane.

Thunder Racing offers a head gasket around ~.040 - I haven't checked the exact installed height of my pistons, but if it is factory this should boost my compression from 10.5 to close to 11.

But at the same time it will give me quench. I am not sure which way to go on the LS engine. In the mopar world we jack the compression up to whatever is needed to get a true quench scenario, and not worry about it.

I have the HP Tuner so I can pull timing if it pings.

Anyone else tried this?

What is the highest compression ratio of all the factory LS motors?

The LS6 243 heads have a 64.5cc chamber, well atleast the ones I just cc'd do. GM uses a .051" head gasket and most LS engines the pistons stick out .006-.008. So the stock compression is around 10.65:1. If you go to a .040" gasket you will have 10.96:1 which will work out great with your .035" quench. I'm not sure how much advance is ground into your 224 cam but I would install it on a 110 intake centerline. This will be a little safer on your 91 octane, 8.45 DCR vs 8.6 DCR on a 108 ICL. Just dont go wild with your timing as the 243 heads make best power around 22-24 degrees of timing.

You sound like you know right. What specs you spit out that I knew, were correct. I had cometic make .032" gaskets. The pistons stick up out of the cylinder. I guess .006"-.008". When I was claying the pistons/valves, I once tried no head gasket. The piston hit the head and the engine could not turn over.
.032"-.007" = .025" quench. I have a hard time avoiding knock retard, as detected with HP tuners as KR. Even on 97 octane VP gas.

Your custom made .032 headgaskets won’t work with unless you have a “zero deck” scenario. It’s just toooo close. Rod stretch and manufacturing tolerances in the rods/pistons themselves will bite you every time.
