Default L33

I am interested in upgrading an L33 engine. I have seen where people have put in a used ZO6 cam and springs and made impressive power gains. Some have also used headers and computer tunes to make even more power. Can anyone give me some more information. I have specs on the ZO6 cam but I do not have any specs on the L33 cam.

Don't waste your time with a Z06 cam. What are your power goals?

I would put in something like a TR224 at the minimum w/ some springs to match. Since the heads are coming off, send out the 243's to get them ported and polished. Put it all back together with some LT headers and a tune and you'll see some NICE gains.

What is a l33? And I also agree...whatever cam, go larger. The people with zo6 cams that made good power (most I"ve seen were from zo6s), used high end heads like AFR, with FAST intakes and whatnot. The good ol 224 cam is always good.

IIRC, it's an all-aluminum 5.3 with 243 heads.

Also came with 799 castings. Same thing though, I guess.

Thanks guys,
I am putting this engine in a 1969 El Camino for my almost 15 year old son. It does not need too much power now, so I think that the ZO6 cam will be enough.

Would better springs be needed with the TR224? Doesn't the L33 come with "LS6 springs and retainers"? I'm not sure if they're the same thing as the "yellows", but they do have a yellow stripe painted down them. I've read about many people that have used LS6 springs with TR224 with no issue.

If the L33 is not going into a truck, I would suggest getting a 224R or a 228R cam at the min. You will need to get some 918 springs or better to handle that cam.
