New engine first startup-Ok with old tune?
I'm going to be firing up my new motor soon. It had a conservative tune. The only difference is the cam. Old R1 232/236 575/578 114, new Torquer V2. Similar specs with a higher lift on a 112 with the V2. After the first initial startup, heat cycle and oil change, I'll be getting a good break in tune. Am I taking a chance on fugging anything up or should I just fire it up?
Thanks in advance.

Should be fine. Just prime the engine with the coils unpluged or pull the fuel pump fuse, and crank untill the oil pressure builds. I had a bolton 224 cam tune on a stock engine and went to lower compression, bigger cam, and heads and it ran prety good untill I could get the blower on and a retune.
Ya, It took about 10-12 seconds for the gauge to move. I wouldn't crank the moter more than that at once so the starter doesn't burn up. If it doesnt prime right away wait a min and then repeat.
I would do what was said then after about a week or so go get it tuned to get the full power out of the different setup you have, but also be kind of leary about beating the **** out of it until about 3 or 4k miles.
What I have done in the past is pull the fuel pump fuse and pull the plugs.
With no compression the engine will turn over really fast and the oil pressure will build up and not burn up a starter.
Install plugs wires and the fuel pump fuse and she will fire right up.

Thats a good idea ^^^. Also when I fired mine new engine for the first time, I ran it for a hour or hour and half burping all the air out of the radiator. Once it was done getting hot, I drained the oil and changed the filter. Drove it for 300-400 miles changed the oil and slaped a blower on it and had it dyno tuned. I was a little worried beating on it, that new but ever thing went well. After the dyno tune I changed the oil and fliter again and started useing mobil 1 full senthetic oil. Make sure to use regular $2 qt mineral oil for the break in. The oil changes were over kill I know but oil is cheap and forged SB's are not.
