Those who went with a 383 stroker?
Would you do it again, or save the extra cash and get an LS2 402?
Thinking about a stroker. 383 would definitly be cheaper to build. Just not sure if I should spend the extra and do an LS2 402. Or say F the F-Body and save the cash for a vette.

I went with a 383 for a few reasons.
I wanted to stay with an aluminum Ls1/Ls6 stock style block. 383 was the largest displacement displacement common in those engines..You can get more with sleeves..& there may be larger stroke cranks available...But 383 was the easiest with a stock block.
I didn't want to do an LS2 conversion,& I didn't want to go iron.
I felt like the money I didn't spend on the extra displacement oveer a simple 383 could go towards stronger parts or better heads...Or into some other place in the car.
383's were the FIRST LSX strokers dating back to when Lunati introduced it's kit in 1998.
Texas speed puts together a great package for the money that includes a brand new LS6 block...I like the visual stealth factor that a 383 brings as well.
It also fully eliminates ANY defiencies(percieved or real) in the torque curve of 5.7.
It generates a torque curve like an electric motor....Torque RIGHT NOW..In my engine, it make 400 ft lbs from 3000(maybe lower, thats just where the pull starts) peaking 455 at 5K dropping back to 400 by the end of the pull at 6500.

I like the idea of a 383, just don't want to do it and wish I went 402. Iron block is not an option. Not going to pay for the HP & TQ and sacrifice weight.

bottom line....vettes irs is a WEAK link especially if you want to drag race on a regular basis and have a 6 speed. a built auto with a stall will run rings around a 6 speed at the track. your car has a solid axel and is many times stronger then any built vette rear...fyi a built 6 speed tranny for a vette costs about 2500 from rpm and a built diff rear= stage 3 from rpm is around 2300. next add in a clutch for another 1k and you got 5500 in parts for a built drive train...now spend another 1k for the install...
used c5's 98's can be bought from around 12k with 80k miles and go up from there...its a buyers market for vettes but again you have to look at selling your car and will find yourself in the same boat...prices are down...
a vette handles better then any camaro thanks to its irs, insurance is cheap (if you have a good record) and the car also weighs less....alot of things to consider...
if you want to see what a little 383 can do, stop buy my house- give me a call and we can go for a ride...tony's 383 had a solid roller cam, mine does not and produces dam near the same level of hp and tq as his but again i have a mild roller in my car.
