ws6store.com dont no why you would want to get the caddies? cost double to be able to rev 1k more without having to worry about only your lifters not screwing up. got a little rice in your blood? ("be able to rev 1k more" is in reference to being capable of, not making your engine actually rev 1k more.)

On another note, I wouldn't just slap in a set of LS7 lifters and your pushrods without knowing the pushrod length. I made that mistake by listening to the internet racers on this forum and now I'm messing with a lifter that's damn near bottomed out. (waiting to install shorter pushrods) The LS7 lifters have a HIGHER plunger height effectively giving you MORE lifter preload with the same pushrod as you would have used on your stock LS1. On the contrary, with LS7 lifters and my 224/228 cam I'm having to go with a .050" shorter pushrod to get me back to .075" lifter preload. Right now I'm at .125" and that's too much for my liking.
+1 on the LS7 lifters having a higher plunger height! I'm in the midst of a head install and just figured that out on my own after doing my pushrod measurements with a solid LS1 lifter. I too measured the difference in the plunger height between the two lifters and got around a .050. I'm not sure why people say the LS7's are exactly the same because they aren't here are some pics as proof (the LS7 lifter is on the left). Notice how the roller is almost completely shrouded, the oil hole is in a different location, and the plunger height.

People say they are the same because the manufacturer has superseded the original LS1 part numbers to the new part number. The lower section and oiler location look like improvements for strength and durability.

How are you measure the actual plunger depth?
What tools and procedure are you using to check the pushrod length?

I measured the difference in plunger depth by stuffing clay in each one and measuring with a caliper. As for the pushrod length I'm using a comp pushrod checker on the base circle of the cam.

Just checking, I am not doubting your abilities but there are a ton of people on forums who do not know how to work on cars or should be working on cars for that matter, and may be using the wrong method of checking things.

what should i expect to pay for lifter replacement and labor on a ls1? the car is stock with plans for headers but no plans of a h/c/i packaged for another 5 years or so but wouldnt mind upgraged to one that has a better chance of not getting stuck. i got a quick quote from a chevy dealer an it was $3900, it seemed like a bunch of bs to me.
