Default LS7 Lifters with new PRs

So I've read LS7 Lifters are the new replacement part lifters but they are a different size, requiring a different push rod size. Is this actually true, or can I still run stock length? It's a stock cam, stock heads (though I will upgrade later, I can change out the pushrods later on).

I'm asking because I believe I have a failed lifter and it requires replacement and I don't really want to blow 400 bucks on Comp Cam lifters.

So... can anyone help?

I used the LS7 lifter when I did my head swap recently and they were the same as LS1's. They are now the replacement for LS1's.

They are exact drop in replacements. If you have to tear the heads off, why not do some performance work while you are at it?

Because I don't have a spare 1600 dollars for a head/cam swap at the moment.

Also, after the heads come off, is it very hard to swap them? (IE, if I was pulling the heads off to check, should I just swap all the lifters anyway?) Are they a decent amount better? (Less prone to failing)

How many miles, the failure rate for the number is use is extremely low for stock GM lifters. Every V8 and some V6 engine since around 1998 uses the same lifter except DOD. Millions of engines times 6 to 8 per engine. For the price of a new set you may as well put them all in if you have the heads off.

While you are replacing the lifters, spend an extra $20 and replace the plastic lifter trays as well.

I read something about that while I was researching. Something about replacing them with LS2 Lifter Trays. I cannot find a place to buy them, though. Or I may be looking in the wrong section.

As long as it won't sound like the sewing machine my car sounds like now.

Also, I can't seem to find lifter trays on TSP's site.

yea same here, where's the trays at? Thunder Racing has em, LS2 lifter trays and LS7 Lifters. I don't think at too bad of a price either.

Thunder racing says:
Four required per engine (2 per side).
For lifter trays, does this mean I need to order 4, or does it come with four?

You need to order 4 separate trays- Order 4

On another note, I wouldn't just slap in a set of LS7 lifters and your pushrods without knowing the pushrod length. I made that mistake by listening to the internet racers on this forum and now I'm messing with a lifter that's damn near bottomed out. (waiting to install shorter pushrods) The LS7 lifters have a HIGHER plunger height effectively giving you MORE lifter preload with the same pushrod as you would have used on your stock LS1. On the contrary, with LS7 lifters and my 224/228 cam I'm having to go with a .050" shorter pushrod to get me back to .075" lifter preload. Right now I'm at .125" and that's too much for my liking.

Are you sure the base circle of your stock cam and the 224/228 are the same.

The OP is asking about a bone stock setup. If you change parts you need to check pushrod length.

Not sure I would choose those. I would either go with LS7 or Morel lifters!
