Default difference between 806 and 853 heads?

Anyone know what the difference is between the heads with 806 casted on them and the ones with 853 casted on them? The board says my 98 should have 853 castings, but there is a big fat 806 casted on it? What does this mean? I couldn't find anything about 806 heads. Thanks guys.

Default difference

i might be wrong, but i was told that 806 was the casting number used on the 97' ls1 vette heads. maybe your car was assembled with those instead of the 853's.

The 806 heads will have the perimeter valve cover bolt holes and the 853 will have the center bolt valve cover holes. Not much else is different between the two.

I've seen over 50 sets of each and have never seen a single 853 casting with perimeter bolt holes. If they did make them, I'd like to know about it. There is a casting number 933 that was on the early C5s and is a perimeter bolt head. Could that be what your thinking of?

Thanks,

Richard

I think your right. The 241 is also a centerbolt. I wonder if the 241s came later than 99?

If I ship you a set of Stage II ported 853 perimeter bolt heads, will you ship me a set of Stage II ported LS6's in trade? I can get creative with some numbering

Correct. 241 is the 2001-2003 casting.
