Default NEed urgent help with comp cams pushrod checker!!

Guys, my brother in law is trying to use the Comp Cams pushrod checker ordered from TSP. HE opened the kit which was just the checker by itself in a blue bag with no instructions, and when he connected the 2 pieces and twisted them out as far as they would go they only reached 7 inches. Are we doing something wrong here? HE couldnt measure properly at 7 inches total length. Can anyone help us out here?

Default Hmmm

Are you looking for a longer Push rod than 7 inches?

Pushrod checkers typically have a one-inch range. You need a different checker.

He probably ordered the wrong one. They come in different sizes and you order depending on the pushrod range that you have.

I bet he ordered the first one on the list and it most likely was for the shorter pushrods.

Yes I would assume so, the stock length aftermarket 7.4 hardened rods are in there now. He installed 59cc PRC heads, along with LS7 lifters and there is a TR224 cam in there. I ordered the PR checking kit from TSP, he said he put the 2 pieces in th ebag together that's all that came with it, and when he twisted it to it's longest length it was only 7 inches, it wasnt even as long as the PR that were in there.

This is the Comp Cams checker directly from TSP website where they only show 1 kit available. They knew I was ordering this for a LS1 app and they know what heads I have since I got them from TSP. I don't think they would send me the wrong size. But as far as what he is doing to check by twisting it all the way out he is doing it correctly right?

He put the stock 7.4 length hardened rods back in and said they measure within .050 with the lifters, I dont understand any of that kind of talk I just know he said he doesn't see it preventing the car from running. Could I completely F up the car by using the 7.4 rods to get the car home from his shop to my house until I get a proper kit? It would be a 10 mile ride.

Ok it looks as if the 7.4 rods are going back in just to get this thing out of the shop and home, can serious damage be done to the engine driving it 10 mile sor so home?

You are fine with .50 preload on stock type lifters. In fact, some guys run with with that. I usually shoot for a little more, .80 - .90 but you aren't going to hurt a thing driving it.

Was hoping for .090 with the LS7 lifters at this point I just hope it starts up and gets home with no damage
