Default Opinions on Hammer Cam wanted

I want some lope and more high end HP, but I must pass emissions testing (not the sniffer, just the PCM report.) I'm thinking of getting the 222/.566/112 C1 cam. Will it make my LS1 sound like a sewing machine?

I just had the same cam installed a week ago. The cam sounds awesome and makes great power with stock heads. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

If all you have to do is pass the PCM test I'd say go for the C2. It's a really nice cam to drive around with. Although it's a little bigger and has a little more lift.

Raughammers webpage has a lot more cam info. I wouldn't go much bigger than a 224/224 112LSA cam if you drive the car often though.

Best of luck

the hammer cam is a great street car cam. My car has lots of low end grunt and never stops pulling up to 6700 rpms. My dyno graph looks like the one posted above on the curves but mine did not make as much power do to moter still breaking in. I had 1000 miles on moter when dynoed. and car was only running 12.4's and after about 2500 miles it went down to the 11.8's . Great cam if you dont want to get to radical. My car does not sound like an 11 sec car <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Here was a friend's reply to a similar question of mine:

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Originally posted by Chris:
Here's the deal Ray, they are doing the same testing now here for all OBD2 cars.

1, they are checking for set codes, no codes means you're clean
2. they also check the 5 continuous monitors. THere are 5 tests the PCM runs constantly, including for the AIR pump, EGR, cat function (which is done with the rear O2 sensors), gas cap pressure, and something else I can never remember.

According to my research, you are allowed to fail any 2 of the 5, meaning pass three and you are clear. So you could delete the AIR and EGR and still pass even with like longtubes as long as you use o2 simulators in place of the rear O2 sensors (which is what my setup is like).

The problem with the bigger cams is the lopier they get the more tendency it is for the crank position sensor to pick up the lope as a miss, and you will set a missfire code.

LS1 edit can take care of several of these problems, you can turn off the crank position sensor or just turn off the missfire code.

YOu can also go in and turn off the EGR and AIR checks/codes and delete the post-cat 02 sensors, but its best to use 02 simms and leave the cat function test intact to make sure you can pass 3 of the 5 monitor tests.

So theoretically you could run any cam you want, but the wilder you get the more issues with missfire codes and driveability you have, and if you go in to test, like I did, and they have any trouble connecting to your PCM, they can do the tailpipe test as a backup, so you still need to be prepared to pass it.

A guy here locally is running longtubes, TEA stage 2 heads and the Thunder 224/224 cam with EGR and AIR totally deleted physically and in the PCM and he passed the OBD2 test with absolutely no issues.

Thanks for the answers, guys! This is a great board, I should have joined it long ago! <img border="0" alt="[worship]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_hail.gif" /> I'm sure that C2 or TR224 would be a killer cam, and I love that lope from the sound clips I've heard, but I'm afraid it would give me a zero safety margin for getting through emissions testing, so I think I'll stick with the Hammer cam. Reboot, those are awesome numbers for cam only on stock heads! You do have an LS6, though. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

I love mine. Valve train noise is very slightly higher than stock, I went with REV 1116 dual springs.

Thanks for your comment on valvetrain noise, I8COBRA. Some noise is acceptable to me. I'm also thinking about going with dual springs. BTW, I noticed in your sig you list a C1 with 114 LSA; I thought all of the C1s were 112 LSA? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I doubt the hollow LS6 valves could explain that, but whow knows. Are you using the stock LS6 springs and pushrods?

Oh BTW, Reboot and AINT SKEERED, how much valve train noise are you guys getting with the C1? I used to have a huge cam in a '67 Firebird that made it sound like friggin sewing machine! It also rocked all over the place on it's engine mounts while idling. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

I love my Hammer cam. Great street cam. I got 382 HP and 382 torque. My best time is a 11.70 at 119.26 mph. It is a 6 speed with stock heads.
