What did you decide. I built my Forged 347 with Compstar Rods and Diamond Forged Pistions for 2,500 Bucks so It can be done. I can throw as big on Nitrous Shot as I want at it and know that i am safe and ready to go.

I have owned both and built both. A 408 is expensive and a great motor. A 347 is cheaper and still has great numbers and either way you are still most importantly FORGED! My 2 cents is just forge the 347 Since you are on a Budget. Throw a progressive nitrous system on there and it want matter either way if you have a 408 or a 347. Just my 2 cents.
