even the 843 castings will make good power, with just a cutout, and freemods I made 330hp on MTI's dyno w/my stock 843 heads.

If you are gonna put in a bumpstick, and LS6intake on an 843 headed car it is DEFINATLY worth it. There are nothing wrong w/those heads...once you do intake and bumpstick the 241's and 843's aren't gonna be much different in the hp output range.

But I don't know of many 843 headed cars making over 400 w/just cam alone....u see a bunch of the 241 headed cars making 400+ w/cams like the G5X2, etc.

If I were you I'd try and find me a set of stock 241 heads (U can get'em for 300 and under) and just use those. Trust me if you use those heads put the springs on w/the heads off the car it's mucho easier.

Then places like MTI/GTP will give u a lil coin for ur cores....just a thought.

Bumpstick=cam...just a name for it. Cutouts are definatly worth their price...hell I've got one of the best cat-backs out and I still have a 3" cutout for the track...on a stock motor u'll looose a few low end Torque numbers but ur HP will rise.

Alright I'll make the same propositiion here as I did for the velocity stack.

If someone buys me an LS6 intake I'll dyno it on my fairly stock 98 z28 back to back with the stocker.

The question remains:

Is the LS6 intake worth the money on an LS1 head car?

Josey said he got 20 hp, but on stage 2 heads.

Anyone seen any before and after dyno numbers on stock heads?

Hell, if I see 20 rwhp from a reliable source I'll buy one tomorrow (or at least order one).

This is why credit cards are evil.

Sorry mom. Sorry god.

where'd you get that info? and how come it doesnt state it on the dyno graph. 405 seems kinda low with ported heads, a 230 cam and bolt ons.

LS6 blocks, but I haven't heard this attributed to a hp increase.

If the LS6 intake isn't worth much on a stock head, why did a guy I know with a 99 SS go from ~385rwhp with 224 cam, SLP headers etc to 403rwhp when he added the LS6 intake...all at the same dyno?

That's like 475 at the crank!

Post dyno results. If the only change was the intake than this should be fairly easy to prove.

I'm not against the idea of an LS6 intake making good power! Did you read the part where I said "if I see 20 rwhp from a reliable source I'll buy one tomorrow"?

Look at the flow numbers I posted on the first page.. Sure there is a small gain to be had with the LS6 intake and pre '01 (#241) heads... Bang for the buck wise, it would be my last mod though.. Those intakes benefit greatly from the ls6 heads which have raised floors, or ported ls1 heads.. JMX clearly has ported heads in that link. Look at his install pics.. I would get a Cam and headers long before the intake..

I did the full "monte" before adding the intake...when I did add the LS6 intake at the end even w/out a dyno you could tell by the seat of your pants the engine made more hp all over the place...hell locked up in 4th gear, I can roll on the throttle and pass someone...no need to downshift no more. :-)

This is exactly what I've been saying and some of the less intelligent people here have been jumping all over me for it!

What are '242' heads? Are they better than 1999 stock LS1 heads?

Holy back from the dead zombie threads, Batman. Is 12 years a record?

To answer your question, there are 241 heads which came on stock LS1 from 2000-04. There are 243 heads that came on the factory LS6.

The 243's are excellent and pretty much the best factory cathedral port head available. They also are the preferred heads for speed shops to do porting. In general the 243 heads are the ones you want on a third gen engine.

241 heads are about the same as 853 and slightly better than 806 heads.

There are no 242's. So are you asking about the 241 or 243 heads?

Quick Reply: 98-00 LS1 heads different than 01,02???
