Graphite or MLS Head Gasket

I will be doin a head change. I ve searched and came up with diffrent GM Part Numbers 12498543 for 97-01 LS1 and 12498544 for 02-04 LS1. I have 241 casting stock heads now. Can I still use GM MLS head gaskets or do I have to use the Grahite ones??

I want to use the AFR 205 heads. I just dont want any leaks. I heard of leaks in the past but dont remember which gasket caused it?? Anyone know??

The GM mls are a very good gasket, and they are more forgiving than the cometic mls gaskets.

I understand what u are saying and agree, but can I still use MLS Gasket with out any leaks with AFR Heads. There was a problem in the past I dont remember what heads, I think the 1998 heads. Someone help.

Either gasket will work. The MLS gaskets are a LOT easier to clean off if you ever have to remove the head again so I would go with those. I also think the graphite is a little thinner when crushed, but I can't remember. Been a long time since I used a set.

Whoever thought graphite gaskets were a good idea needs to be shot! I spent FOREVER and a day cleaning that crap off my block when installing new heads.
