Default How much Overlap with Cats?

I've been trying to find a general rule of thumb for a safe amount of overlap one can get away with with metallic cats, before the overlap starts to really affect the cats?

I've seen somewhere around 10 degrees at .050" - is that close? I want to cut down on the gas smell by running less overlap and high-flow cats.

Thanks, guys.

I have the setup in my sig. My cam has quite a bit of overlap. Provided you have a good tune the gas smell is not from the overlap. The only time I have a gas smell is when the o2s are not warmed up. If you turn the key on and let it sit a few minutes before startup the o2s will warm up and be in a ready state and you will have no gas smell.
