Question on 241, vs 706 heads
I also have a 2005 Tahoe with the 5.3, which has 85k miles on it. I thought if I ever had to do engine work on the tahoe at least I would have a good set of 241 heads off my camaro I could use on my truck. I looked at the casting number on the tahoe heads which are currently on the truck and they say 706
I did a search and it seems that the 706 heads are desireable for f-bodys. My question is why? I under stand the the compression is slightly higer but thats about it. I read a lot of threads about them being good heads with porting, well all LSx are good heads with porting. Im wondering if holding onto the 241's with intensions of placing them on my truck would be an upgrade or a down grade?
The 5.3 heads are popular due to the small combustion chamber and good flow potential with porting and larger valves. It also helps that they are a bit cheaper than the 243 casting. Which makes them a very good head for the money.
Again, only curious because I wouldnt want to hold onto the 241's if they will hamper the preformance or drivability of my truck. To me it doesnt sound like there would be a big difference if I am understanding it correctly
So by milling the 241s 6cc you would benefit marginaly over your 706.
